Article: Aussies mood

The Australian Shepherd, so called Aussies, is an intelligent, energetic and devoted breed. Despite its name, it does not come from Australia but from the USA, where it developed in the 19th century. Originally bred for herding, the Aussie learns quickly and loves to work with its people. It forms a strong bond with the family and dislikes being left alone – it truly is a life companion.

This dog needs plenty of physical activity and mental stimulation. It excels in sports such as agility, obedience, canicross or herding, but even if the family is not active in these areas, the Aussie happily joins hikes and long walks in nature. It is not suitable as a couch-only pet – daily activity is a must.

The Australian Shepherd is a medium-sized, athletic dog with a beautiful medium-length coat in many color varieties (blue merle, red merle, black tri, red tri). Regular brushing is required.

To maintain breeding quality, health testing is essential – especially hips, elbows, eyes and genetic diseases (e.g. MDR1, HSF4, PRA, CEA).

The Australian Shepherd is an ideal companion for families and people looking for love and partnership. It brings joy, loyalty and endless energy, but it also needs time, attention and, above all, love.
